Brigid O'Donoghue was born into a 100% Irish Catholic family on July 29, 1964. She was raised in Milwaukee, WI with two sisters and six brothers. Her brother Sean was mentally and physically disabled and her bond with him was the stepping stone in helping the less fortunate. She is a single mother and her daughter Lindsey is 16 and son Kendall is 14 years old
Brigid's life has had many dead ends, twists and turns. She has overcome childhood illnesses, epilepsy, brain surgery, permanent disability, and an extremely abusive relationship and no child support; beyond doubt she and her children knew the meaning of poverty.
From her circumstances she founded Bio-Tec Research, Inc., United Special Sportsmen Alliance (U.S.S.A) and Charnel Fashions. She humbly devotes 50% of her life to volunteer work for the terminally ill and disabled. She is dealing with children who have incurable diseases and disabilities daily, and because of her past health as well as watching what her brother endure, she stays strong and energetic. She brings joy and strength to families who have lost all hope! She said, "When I reveal my personal story with parents it eases their pain to know I truly understand what they are enduring. With sick children and adults it's like we understand each other in a way that's very hard explaining to someone who isn't terminal or disabled. We walked the same path in life and we feel closeness among us. I don't think we are being punished with our disabilities but blessed by God. The higher level of pain one endures the higher level of love we feel!"
Her son is in football, basketball, track as well as on the student counsel, hunting fishing, waterskiing and on the honor role. Lindsey too is highly involved. Besides the high honor role, she is active in future business leaders of America , she is in her second year as a state level forensics competitor, she is a dancer and on the Pomp squad for athletic events as well as operates the concession stand. Lindsey is also enrolled in a tutor/mentor program for children with learning disabilities at the grade school. She has been recently confirmed and practicing her faith in everyday life and Kendall in his 3 rd/ year of CCD. Lindsey works at a restaurant one day a week teaching her work ethics, communication skills and responsibility.
Brigid feels it is of utmost importance to help give the disadvantage segment of America 's society a very real hope that they too can overcome tremendous obstacles. Show them that they too can and will make a difference in our society. Brigid's life story definitely reinforce the belief in those ideals.
Brigid said, "What I would like to encourage is the concept of belief, hard work and generosity in all of life's endeavors; all which are free for all Americans."
