My name is Ivan Mills; I grew up in a very small community in south western West Virginia where three things stood out above others. Hunting, fishing, and being a patriot so of course, at the age of 8 I went on my first hunt with my Dad and watched him miss a squirrel after several attempts with a .22 rifle. I can remember so many wonderful fishing trips that I can't just pick one to talk about.
Then, at the age of 19, I enlisted in the Army. It had been a dream since childhood to be a soldier and now my dream was realized. Basic training at Ft. Benning, GA, I was stationed at several places around the country and was able to see much of the world. I received multiple injuries while serving and am now a disabled veteran. I have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), multiple disc herniations in my spine and Gulf War Syndrome.
I have learned through the years and many treatment attempts for my PTSD that the one true help is for me to help others. To let fellow veterans know that they are not alone, that there is someone who has been where they are and they don't have to face it alone. Currahee, We Stand Alone Together. Together we will take the necessary steps to provide and meet the needs of our veteran family. We stand alone with our fellow veterans, a special breed, which will put their life down for each other on the battle field. Now let's continue to Stand Alone "TOGETHER" and take care of one another.
