I live in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a short drive from the Rocky Mountains and great skiing! I have two gorgeous boys, Quinn (11) and Callum (almost 7) and my hubby Steve. I have been a stay at home Mom since my babies were born and love every minute of it. I used to train horses before I became a mother and I have my CEF Level 1 English Coach, as well as my Level 1 Special Olympics coach certifications. About four years ago, I read an article in the Rosie magazine about a US group named 'Hugs and Hope' and thought, 'That is something I would love to do!' Support children with life threatening illnesses....find ways to make them smile! In 2003, I decided that our own Canadian kids needed support and smiles too, and I founded my own group, 'Bears Who Care', which later changed to the current group, 'Hug A Bug'. This group and the wonderful children who are our club 'bugs' keeps me very busy.....the children are all such inspirations, real little heroes.
It is a pleasure to bring some small joy to their day. Many of the children that I support have 'Caringbridge' pages, and this is where I first saw Brigid offering one of her trips to another sick child. I emailed her to ask if she might be able to do something for my buddy Caleb, who lives in Tennessee. While Caleb was unable to go to the first event Brigid offered (he was still in the thick of treatment for his leukemia), she later set up a train ride, which he loved!! I was then asked by Brigid to be the 'Canadian' contact for USSA and what I do is try to find Canadian kids who would like to go on a hunting trip (I unfortunately have not had any success yet!) or fishing trip(I would have better success with this, I am sure!). I look forward to trying to help Brigid and the USSA do their great work in Canada, as well as in the USA! You are helping sick children realize dreams and make memories that will stay with them a lifetime.
